In China’s material supplier, the coated paper provided by a common size with 787×1092mm and 889x1197mm, the quantitative 70~250g/m2. If distinct by the surface appearance, there is glossy and matte-coated paper. If distinct by side finishing, then there are coated one side(C1S) and coated 2 side coated(C2S) paper. According to the quality, it is classified as A, B, C. The main raw material for coated paper is copper. The requirements for the base paper are uniform thickness, small expansion and contraction, high strength, and good water resistance.

In the paper packaging industry, coated paper plays a vital role. In most paper packaging box material, coated paper are used as part of them. For example, 157g C2S is an excellent material for outer covering. The C1S of 250g-400g is a good choice for making cartoon card boxes.

Uncoated Paper

Uncoated paper is easy to know what it is if you learned the coated paper first. It is opposite to the coated paper. This means the uncoated paper without coated appearance look. Uncoated paper has a rough surface feel. So it can be written more clearly, and when printed on uncoated paper, the printed in will be absorbed more easily, which means more ink is needed to print on uncoated paper. Woodfree paper, kraft paper, and black cards are all belonging to uncoated paper.

Kraft Paper

Kraft paper is a type of uncoated paper, which is tough and can be recycled. Yellow and white color is the available colors.

If you request the lamination on the kraft paper, then I would say, don’t do that if not necessary. As we know uncoated paper surface is not smooth, if covering with lamination, there will be a lot of small bubbles in the sunken position. How we should do if without any lamination, will the color be fade? Actually, In order to prevent printing color fade, kraft paper is generally used over the surface treatment of Varnishing.

Another secret thing you don’t know is that kraft paper printing colors are very difficult to match the standard color sheet. Because kraft paper comes with its own base color, kraft paper printing is more difficult to follow the original CMYK or Pantone color. How we solve the problem? In actual mass production, closing the material with kraft paper, we will spend more time to match the color. Not only check the color under the professional printing light, natural light but also check the color under the D65 light. Only when the colors look like a perfect match under all three conditions, then the colors are closer to the standard. Another key printing, kraft paper with UV printing will make the color match more easily.

Black Paper Card

Black paper card is a strong paper card. Both sides of the paper are black, and the paper core is also black.

When you want to make a black box, the black paper card is a wise option. Black paper is matte finishing, the shiny finishing can cover on it to raise the logo, such as spot glossy UV or foil hot stamping glossy logo.

Thickness black paper cards can be die-cut to paper box shape directly.

Greyboard

Greyboard plays absolutly necessary role in the gift packaging industry. The greyboard makes the gift box more strong and sturdy.

600g greyboard would be about 1mm thickness. Making a 1mm thicker box match 600g greyboard. Making a 2mm thicker box match 1200g greyboard.

Just like this, the grey paper board plays the role of fixing the shape of the box, so it is usually wrapped in the inside of the box. You won’t know the existence of it only when you tear open the wrapping paper outside.

Golden and Silver Paper

Golden paper is a reworked synthetic paper with a synthetic aluminum foil or PET aluminum film on the surface as a backing paper. It is a very commonly used specialty paper.

If the box to be all silver or golden color, then with logo printing or embossed on it, just using the golden or silver paper card, this way can help you to save much cost on printing silver or golden color when the quantities are small. There is matte and glossy finishing.

But here is an important specification that, the golden/silver paper printing should be with UV printing.

Why?

Because there is a layer of PET aluminum film, on the surface of the gold and silver paper jam, it is difficult for the printing ink to be completely attached to it. It’s like pouring water on a piece of smooth glass, and when you move the glass, the water will follow. Therefore, the printing of gold and silver paper needs to fix the ink immediately in the printing process, that is, to make the ink dry immediately after printing. The UV printing solves the ink problem we just talked about.

At the same time, when printing gold and silver paper, if you want to print the real color, you need to print a layer of white ink as the background color.

As a result of these complex factors, the printing cost of gold and silver paper is higher than that of ordinary paper.

So think about what kind of effect your box needs. But if the gold or silver boxes you need don’t need to print, burn or bump a logo, then gold and silver paper are really a good way to save printing costs.
