Most of us think that a customized packaging box would cost much than a stock packaging box. Yes, it is. But not always. When we know more things about packaging boxes, we can understand where we can reduce the cost when the customized package is our reasonable charge.
The first thing we should know is what would be composed to be a personalized box cost.
The personalized box cost is managed by four-part parts: material cost, printing cost, surface finishing cost, and handmade cost.
Material
Most of the gift boxes were mainly made out of the thicker paperboard
When we use the 600gsm paper board, the package will be made out of 1mm thickness. Now from here, I think you must know the 2mm thickness would be 1200gsm paper board.
The paper board makes the box sturdy and robust. But when you don’t have the exact requirements about the box thickness, it is an excellent way to reduce some consistency for the paper board. It would save some cost. Especially when the box size is large, larger size, farther away from the paper board price.
There is much different thickness paper board in the paper market.
Printing
Printing looks like a simple process, but it didn’t. It is complicated than our imaging.
Before printing, we have to adjust the color first to confirm each color can match the artwork’s color, then printing some to test. After few hours of the previous work, then start to mass production printing.
So that’s why if the quantities are small, the price would be much higher as there is the opening printing machine cost. If order quantities are smaller, the printing cost is higher.
Surface Finishing
Surface finishing is including lamination, logo hot stamping, spot UV, and embossed process. It is not just one, but sometimes a few process parts.
This process cost is less than another process, as in common, only the logo or some particular area requested to be with the special finishing.
Handmade Cost
We can say that it would be half part of a box cost.
More complicated box, the handmade cost would be more.
So, when the boxes are totally made by handcraft, that means the box price will be higher much than our thinking. (Heart shape box, start shape box, or calendar box belongs to complicated types)
The simple box style like the base and Lid box can make it totally by automatic machine. The auto process would help us to save the handmade cost and also can improve the production time.
Now you know the parts of the cost if you want the factory to reduce some cost on the box, so considering from the four processes to get some reducing.
