1, what’s the product?
This question is not sharp, it is easy to answer. Thinking about your product appearance, material, function, and even the size.Knowing your own product inside and outside as an expert.
These answers will help you to better understand your product and let you know what size your packaging needs to be and what kind of packaging it is suitable for. For example, if your product is a very personalized gift, then it is not appropriate to use mass-market packaging, but rather custom packaging for your own product. 2, who’s buying the product?
Who’s my product, men or women, old or young? Proactively learn about your buyers and analyze what they have in common. This information will help you provide a package that is more in line with what they are willing to buy.
3, How the product is sold to consumers?
How is the product sold to the consumer, offline, or online? If you are selling offline, is it in a supermarket or just a small shop? If you are selling online, that is important to consider the shipping safe material.
4, Who’s the competitor?
Any start-up business needs to know the competitors in the same industry, who is that tiger, and do some basic research, know who is the competitor of this product. If possible, buy a one to check how to pack their products, find out the attractive and most impressive one from them, then you will have some idea for your own packaging.

You have to collect and confirm the following relevant information:
1, the printing color;
This is related to the overall color of your packaging, you can choose CMYK or Pantone color number to determine, CMYK and Pantone are international common printing colors, the use of their colors can make your packaging out of the effect of your design will not be too bad.
2, The printing Font, determine the font; the font of the outer package is very important, you can determine it according to the local consumption habits or the brand value that needs to be reflected, of course, it does not affect reading is a very important factor.
3,Logo.
The logo is related to whether consumers can remember you, the most important condition that distinguishes you from other products.
4,Get the die lines
This part is very important ,as it determined which style packaging .
So doing this part ,you have to understand some paper packaging things:
Understand the packaging style first:
The paper packaging always have 3 basic style
1,set up box –base and lid style
The simple design ,it is easy for open and assembled when you put the product inside .The base is the top cover part ,it always printed some logo on it .The base is the bottom part, with some product description information printing.
2,hinged box –like book shape box .
This box feature is easy to open,but it is not suitable for very big size .If the size is two big ,the box board easy to bend over.
3,foldable box –with magnet closure ,flat packing to save shipping cost
If your product is very large, we suggest to do this one,even the box is looks like more conplicated ,but it can help you to save more store and shipping cost.
4,drawer box– The drawer box is shaped like a locker, consisting of a base and an outside sleeve, with a push-pull effect, suitable for high-end gift packaging.
5,tube box –round box ,making from the directly paper tube ,there including rolled edge tube box and flat edge round box.
Know the basic material of the paper packaging
Coated paper – High-grade printing paper made of base paper coated with white paint. Mainly used for printing covers and illustrations of high-quality books and magazines, color pictures, all kinds of beautiful product advertising, samples, product packaging, trademarks, and so on. There are two types of paper: single-sided and double-sided, and the paper surface is divided into two types: glossy and cloth. The surface of the paper is smooth and clean, and the ink absorption and inking properties are very good. Because coloring pages need to be kept for a long time, coated paper is hard-wearing and not easily damaged.
Greyboard – Gray cardboard is produced from a kind of recycled waste paper. It is divided into single grey, double grey, and full grey, and is an environmentally friendly packaging material. The main applications: packaging boxes, advertising boards, folders, picture frames, back panels, bags, hardcover books, storage boxes, samples, liners, partitions, and so on.
Kraft paper – Kraft paper is tough, water-resistant packaging paper, brown in color, very versatile, flexible and strong, high breakage resistance, can withstand greater tension and pressure without rupture. Kraft paper has high tensile strength, single light, double light, stripes, no grain, etc… Mainly used for wrapping paper, envelopes, paper bags, etc. it belongs to uncoated paper, as the kraft paper always has the base color, so when printing the color on kraft paper always has a 10-20% color difference. Black paper card- also known as black kraft paper, is generally made from all wood pulp and is also known as translucent black kraft paper because it is black through and through. Black cardboard is a relatively stiff and thick paper, generally with smooth and fine double-sided, good stiffness, stable color characteristics. As the black paper is dark
black ,so won’t do the digital or offset printing on it ,as the color would looks very far on it.
Golden/silver paper– Gold and silver cardboard is printed with UV transfer technology by applying a layer of UV oil on the paper surface through a blanket, and then transferring the light beam film or special order pattern onto the printed paper through a cylinder. Make the surface of the paper to produce a light column has the effect of laser paper
Ask the printer more things
It is a digital printing or offset printing or silk screen printing
Digital printing – One sheet printing, no plate making, instant error correction, variable printing, printing on demand.
Offset printing- Fine graphics, rich layers, suitable for high volume printing, the famous brand are Heidelberg, Roland, Kobo, Komori, Mitsubishi, Yoshiaki, Sakurai
Silkscreen printing –Screen printing refers to the use of a screen as a plate base and the use of a photopolymer plate making method to produce a screen printing plate with graphics. When the paper is uncoated paper or special textured paper, we always do the silk screen printing to meet the printing requirements.
UV printing – Printing is relatively quick-drying ink, that is, the use of UV ink for printing, with UV light irradiation, so that each color ink in the UV light through the instantaneous drying, making the CMYK four-color overlay clearer, will not let the ink blend with each other, making the picture blurred, mainly for the high smoothness of the material, such as gold and silver cardboard suitable for UV printing.
After all the things confirmed ,then you got the die lines.
Asked your design to do the graphic design on the die lines, and if necessary, making a printed sample or 3D photo to see how is the final look. Making all things clear and no loss. Get the edited artwork as PDF or AI file from your designer.
